MOBILE SEED AND FEED: Accreditation Achieved
Finally after a lengthy process we have been notified that NSF-CMi Certification have been approved by UKAS to audit the NAAC’s Mobile Feed and Verified Seed modules of the Assured Land-Based Contractor scheme under EN45011.
EN45011 will increase the credibility of the schemes within the industry proving the robustness of the standards. It will also help improve the status of the schemes within UK farm assurance schemes. Currently, farmers are ‘recommended’ to use an NAAC-assured feed and seed contractor but, with UKAS accreditation, we hope to strengthen the requirement so that it becomes ‘a critical failure point’ for the farmer if he doesn’t use an assured contractor from October 2011.
First ‘Assured’ Contractors Collect Agricultural Waste
Following a successful audit, B&B Contractors from Gunnislake in Cornwall are the first business to become ‘Assured’ Agricultural Waste Collectors. Developed by the National Association of Agricultural Contractors (NAAC) and independently audited by NSF-CMi, the new scheme promotes a traceable route between the farmer, contractor and the next point of process, ensuring waste is collected by suitably trained staff and hazards from collection and transportation are identified and controlled. Contractors must also recycle at least 70% of waste collected.

New Quality Standards for Agricultural Waste Collection Contractors
The standard ensures that waste collected by an ‘Assured’ contractor is done so safely and professionally. It expects all staff involved in the waste collection service to be suitably skilled, collection equipment/vehicles to be maintained correctly and any hazards identified and controlled.

The Revised Verified Seed Scheme
The NAAC launched its Verified Seed Scheme in 1999 to provide a traceable, independently
audited system for mobile seed processors. Recently, the standard has undergone a
significant review to further strengthen what is already a robust scheme, recognized
by UK farm assurance schemes.
Taking the format successfully used by the NAAC’s Mobile Feed Mixing and Processing
Scheme, Verified Seed scheme members will have to pass a generic module (based on NAAC
Code of Practice), in addition to the updated seed standard.
The NAAC is working closely with CMi to give the scheme further credibility in the
industry by reaching UKAS accreditation EN 45011 in spring/summer 2008.

ABPig’s Inclusion of the Mobile Feed Mixing and Processing Contractor’s within their scheme
ABPig’s scheme is set to include the NAAC’s Mobile Feed Scheme within its protocol
just like the ABM’s Assured Beef and Lamb scheme. This is further proof that assured
NAAC Mobile Feed contractors operating within the scheme are being recognised within
the industry.
