In addition NAAC member contractors use the following
set of guidance, depending upon the operation in which they are
involved:
Safe Use of Sulphuric Acid as an Agricultural Desiccant
A new Code of Best Practice on the Safe Use of Sulphuric
Acid has been launched to contractors at meetings in the Midlands
and in Scotland. This Code has
been developed by manufacturers and contractors as part of
the Voluntary
Initiative to promote best practice for the use of sulphuric
acid as a desiccant of approved agricultural crops.
All contractors have been invited to sign up to a
register
of contractors, run by the NAAC, which is being used
to create a more positive and professional image for the
industry - helping to safeguard the longer term future of
sulphuric acid as a potato desiccant. This will give those
on the listing increased credibility, publicly declaring
their commitment to the protection of the environment, whilst
taking responsibility for public and operator safety.

CrossTrack Code keeps Railways Safe
Large
and slow moving vehicles can cause a hazard when crossing
railways and Railtrack have been working with the NAAC to
try and prevent further agricultural accidents on crossings.
As a result, contractors are advised to read The Cross Track
Code and to take the advice seriously, to try and avoid potential
dangers. Click

Safety on Farms - A Shared Responsibility
Deaths
and injuries on farms are a serious problem for the employer,
employees, contractors and visitors. On average,
52 people die in agricultural accidents each year, whilst
over 2000 people suffer non-fatal injuries.
This leaflet is aimed at farmers and growers, people who
periodically work on farms, drivers who collect and deliver
farm goods and others making commercial visits to farms.
It emphasises the need for a shared responsibility, by the
farmer and the visitor. It also describes practical measures
to help prevent accidents.
