9.45 am Arrival - Tea/coffee and bacon butty for all

10.30 am Introduction – Alan Plom HSE to set the scene and Adrian Riley NAAC to explain how the day will work

10.45 am Morning Sessions:

“Working Near Power Lines” session will be taken by John Haddon (EDF Energy) and will include a practical demonstration and the consequences of coming in contact with an overhead power lines.

“Rail Crossings” session will be taken by Adam Meredith (The Railways Inspectorate) who will give a presentation and video footage on the problems they have with agricultural vehicles using railway crossings.

“Materials handling/Telehandler” session will be taken by Lantra awards instructor Brian Rees. With a telehandler on site Brian will discuss visibility aids, the use of CCTV and working at heights.

“Manual Handling” session will be taken by Simon Singlehurst. Although not directly related to transport it is still a very important issue nonetheless.

12.50pm Lunch (kindly sponsored by Bluefin Insurance)

14.00pm Afternoon Sessions:

HSE and VOSA will team up to give a presentation on the design and maintenance of trailer brakes. VOSA’s representative John Bruce will bring one of VOSA’s vans and display units to demonstrate what they look for at a roadside check and their various methods for checking vehicles on the road.

BAGMA’s Adam Wyatt will carry out a tractor/trailer brake test to demonstrate the efficiency of trailer brakes and encourage the uptake of testing and maintenance.

15.00pm Open forum Q & A and feedback with all Instructors / HSE representatives.

Throughout the day representatives from Bluefin Insurance (formerly Hammon Osborne) will be available to talk to you about your insurance requirements and quote you for your liability insurance. All they will need is your turnover and the amount paid out in wages/salary. So, why not ask them to quote for your insurance to see if they can save you money.

The NAAC’s Health and Safety Consultant Jeremy Lowe will be on-hand to help you with your health and safety issues and to promote the newly revised health and safety manual.
