NAAC Services for Contractors

REPRESENTATION

  • At UK Government level: One voice is hard to hear, but the united voice of the NAAC can get YOUR message across - highlighting important issues affecting contractors and giving YOU a say in YOUR future
  • European Government level in Brussels: The NAAC has representation in Brussels, through the Confederation Europeene des Entrepeneurs de Travaux Techniques Agricoles et Ruraux (CEETTAR), which is the European organisation representing agricultural and rural contractors
  • With other land-based organisations: The NAAC is a recognised trade organisation which works closely with the agricultural and land-based industries

Promoting professionalism
Defending the interests and status of Contractors

Agricultural Operations Section

  • Defending the use of red diesel by agricultural contractors and lobbying on transport issues
  • Protecting the industry against a £125 million a year pesticides tax, with representation on the Voluntary Initiative Steering Group
  • Defending the use of sulphuric acid, with a new Code of Best Practice and registration of contractors
  • Liaising with assurance schemes to try and ensure all standards for contractors are industry–driven
  • Providing up-to-date information to members eg crop spraying issues, waste, single farm payment etc
  • Organising technical visits, both in the UK and Europe

Amenity

  • Actively fighting to improve tender documents and contracts from local authorities and corporate clients
  • Sending the Directory of NAAC Members to all local authorities, promoting member businesses
  • Lobbying as a member of the Voluntary Initiative steering group (fighting to avoid a pesticides tax)
  • Distributing and co-authoring the Orange Code; directly involved in current discussions on its revision
  • Organising seminars to educate customers (eg local authorities)
  • Representation on the Amenity Forum for the sector

Livestock

  • Assisting shearers in work permit applications by backing member submissions. This has been successful
  • Helping members to find shearers, through the NAAC Shearing Helpline
  • Pressing the Government and manufacturers to review the use of sheep dip in jetters, showers and sprays
  • Lobbying on proposed legislation on dipping issues eg disposal of dip
  • Working with Defra on development of cattle scanning courses, keeping members up-to date

Mobile Feed

  • Developing an independently audited industry standard for on-farm mixers and promoting the scheme to the assurance schemes to ensure that mobile mixers are able to work to standards which are practical, enforceable and proportionate to the level of risk
  • Fighting to retain the status of vehicles and use of red diesel
  • Lobbying on new European Feed Hygiene legislation by working with Government and the industry
  • Reviewing Hazard Analysis systems to assist members in implementation
  • Working with the Advisory Committee on Animal Feedstuffs to lobby on international standards for feed

Mobile Seed

  • Promoting the NAAC Verified Seed Scheme – an independently audited quality scheme for seed processors
  • Managing the NAAC royalty collection scheme agreement with the British Society for Plant Breeders
  • Fighting to retain the status of vehicles and the use of red diesel
  • Representing members on an NFU/BSPB technical committee, where the NAAC is able to present the mobile processor’s view around the table with other leading organisations
  • Debating and lobbying manufacturers on the design of seed-treatment containers
  • Initiating and organising cross-industry co-operation with manufacturers, seed producers and distributors to encourage farmers to use a seed treatment
