NAAC’s new Directory of Contractors goes to every local authority
Every local authority — 925 of them in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland — has received a copy of the NAAC’s 2007 Directory of Contractors. As far as possible it has landed on the desk of named people or in the department which controls the amenity management budget.
The NAAC message has been clear to the Local Authorities — the European Union and the UK Government are actively considering much tighter controls on the way that they as local authorities manage and supervise their weed control programmes. The regulators believe that, up to now, amenity applications of such things as weed-killers have largely escaped the tough regulations now operating in farming, horticulture and forestry. They now want to plug that gap and the NAAC is expecting proposals to appear during 2007.
