NAAC members stand ready to help in a FMD outbreak
The UK government in common with other EU governments is required under EU law to have a contingency vaccination resource ready for use in the event of a future foot and mouth disease (FMD) outbreak.
Defra have contracted Genus to provide this resource. In the event of a future FMD outbreak, Genus will mobilise it and be responsible for working with Defra, under instruction from Animal Health (previously known as the State Veterinary Service), to deliver a vaccination programme. The NAAC already holds a register of members who have volunteered their services so that we can quickly help in an outbreak by providing suitably sympathetic and experienced land-based personnel.
