Professional Contractors are up for the Challenges Ahead
There are many challenges ahead for agricultural and amenity contractors but the contracting industry is ready for them, says Richard Minton, the new chairman of the National Association of Agricultural Contractors.
Richard is the first chairman in the 114-year history of the NAAC to come from the amenity sector rather than the agricultural one – he took over from Dorset milling and mixing contractor Jim Farquharson at the NAAC’s recent Annual Meeting. He will serve as chairman for two years.
"While working in the Amenity sector and not having a direct link with Agriculture, the synergy between contractors remains the same,” Richard believes. “We are all striving to be recognised as ‘Professionals’, committed to giving a first class service to our customers.
During my time as Chairman I would like to see far greater respect paid to contractors. This can only be achieved if we ourselves continue to improve our own individual image and meet the high standards demanded not only by our customers, but also by the strict legislation now ruling the services we offer.“
Richard started in the Amenity business in 1986 when he joined ICI Professional Products. Eventually, following de-mergers and takeovers, he became UK Sales Manager for the Scott’s Turf and Amenity business. In 2001 he moved to Complete Weed Control as its Commercial Director, becoming Managing Director in 2003.
At the same time as becoming NAAC Chairman, Richard is starting a new business, JPCS Weed Control. In addition to his role with the NAAC, he represents the industry on a number of committees promoting best practice and good product stewardship in the safe use of pesticides.
Richard lives near Pershore, Worcestershire with wife Kaye, has two grown up children, plays golf and enjoys watching most sports.
