NAAC WARNS LIVESTOCK CONTRACTORS TO STAY AWAY FROM FARMS
The National Association of Agricultural Contractors (NAAC) today warned its members and other UK livestock contractors to keep off livestock farms until the extent of the foot and mouth outbreak is known.
In the light of Government advice, contractors are reminded that a livestock movement ban is in force across the UK and therefore it is vital that contractors do not inadvertently spread the disease. Until the full extent of the outbreak is known there is a clear risk for livestock contractors coming in direct contact with animals, which include cattle, sheep, pigs, goats, deer and camelids such as alpacas.
Jill Hewitt, Chief Executive for the NAAC said "It is vital at this time that our industry plays its part and livestock contractors stay away from farms in the short-term until we have more information. We have an important role in ensuring that we assist Defra in controlling and eradicating this disease. I ask all livestock contractors to stand down until Defra can establish the exact disease spread and until we can safely start to resume work."
